Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam – July 9, 2025 – Global energy technology leader NOV hosted its Technology Day at The Reverie Saigon, bringing together over 100 representatives from major operating companies, joint ventures, and service providers across Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

The event opened with remarks from Mr. Raffoul Raffoul, Senior Vice President of NOV’s Eastern Hemisphere operations, who emphasized the importance of regional collaboration in driving progress. Joining him was Dr. Bui Minh Son, Deputy Drilling Superintendent at Cuu Long Joint Operating Company (JOC), who reflected on decades of experience in drilling and completions, and highlighted past collaboration with NOV—most notably, a co-authored 2018 Society of Petroleum Engineers paper documenting a record-setting horizontal drilling achievement in Vietnam (SPE-191872-MS).

Attendees explored a curated exhibition featuring state-of-the-art technologies developed by NOV to enhance performance across the well lifecycle. Key highlights included the Agitator™ZP system, which optimizes weight transfer and minimizes stick-slip and drag without increasing standpipe pressure—an advantage in extended-reach, high-flow wells.

Also on display was the PosiTrack™ TVM tool, designed to mitigate torsional vibration phenomena such as stick-slip and high-frequency torsional oscillation (HFTO), helping extend bottomhole assembly (BHA) life in complex drilling environments.

Digital transformation took center stage with Downhole Broadband Solutions (DBS), a wired drill pipe system capable of delivering high-speed downhole data at up to 57,600 bits per second. This real-time insight enhances well placement accuracy and accelerates decision-making at the rig site.

Other notable technologies showcased during the event demonstrated NOV’s focus on enhancing drilling durability, automation, and pressure control across a wide range of environments. The TK™ Drakōn coating, for example, was highlighted for its superior resistance to corrosion, abrasion, and chemical degradation, while also offering low thermal conductivity. This combination not only improves the longevity of bottomhole assemblies in extreme temperature conditions but also helps maintain drilling fluid temperatures, reducing operational downtime.

Further advancing drilling performance, Evolve™ drill bits, paired with NOV’s proprietary ION+™ shaped cutter technology, were presented as a solution for maximizing drilling efficiency in abrasive formations. These bits enable deeper, more thermally stable cutting, which translates to longer runs, reduced tool failures, and lower overall drilling costs.

Automation also took center stage with the introduction of the ATOM RTX™ robotic system, designed to perform repetitive drill-floor tasks with precision and safety. By reducing personnel exposure to red zones and integrating seamlessly with NOV’s rig control systems, ATOM RTX enhances consistency and operational efficiency in both routine and high-risk operations.

Meanwhile, the NOVOS™ Reflexive Drilling System demonstrated the company’s leadership in automated rig operations. As the industry’s only reflexive platform, NOVOS automates tasks such as weight-on-bit control and connection sequencing, ensuring consistent drilling performance regardless of the driller’s experience level. Its scalable architecture allows for fleet-wide optimization and integration with existing rig systems, delivering both safety and economic benefits.

Casing operations were represented by the XCalibur™ connector system, which streamlines tubular makeup through a robust, torque-turn-free design. Engineered for high-load, extended-reach wells, XCalibur delivers metal-to-metal sealing and superior fatigue resistance—helping reduce rig time while maintaining structural integrity in demanding well conditions.

Pressure control solutions were another key focus, with NOV’s Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) systems offering tailored capabilities for land, offshore, and deepwater applications. By combining advanced choke manifolds, intuitive control panels, and rotating control devices, the MPD platform enables real-time, automated pressure management, helping operators minimize nonproductive time, improve well control, and enhance overall safety.

Additional tools and systems featured at the exhibition included ReAct™ tools, advanced liner hanger and multi-stage stimulation equipment, next-generation drill string connections, and severe-service choke valves, all aimed at tackling the operational complexities of modern energy development.

“Technology Day in Viet Nam provided an important platform to exchange ideas and explore practical solutions to real operational challenges,” said Raffoul. “It also reflects our commitment to purposeful innovation and to working alongside our partners to support the growth and transformation of the energy sector in this region.”

By fostering open technical engagement and investing in localized collaboration, NOV continues to play a central role in advancing safe, modern, and efficient energy operations in Vietnam and throughout Southeast Asia./.
