BSR and SDIC Biotech Advance Cooperation on Ethanol and Biofuels

As part of the visit, the BSR delegation met with SDIC Biotech's leadership in Beijing and conducted a site visit to the SDIC Bioenergy (Jidong) plant in Heilongjiang Province. The delegation reviewed the company's production capacity, feedstock supply, ethanol production technology, logistics system, quality management practices, and its capability to supply fuel ethanol to the Vietnamese market.

According to BSR, Vietnam's ethanol market is facing substantial demand following the nationwide rollout of E10 gasoline in June 2026. Current market demand is estimated at 80,000–100,000 cubic meters per month, while domestic production capacity stands at approximately 25,000 cubic meters per month. The resulting shortfall of around 75,000 cubic meters per month is currently being met through imports.

For BSR, ethanol demand for E10 gasoline production is projected at 9,000–11,000 cubic meters per month. Securing a stable, reliable, and long-term ethanol supply is therefore essential to ensuring uninterrupted blending, production, and distribution of E10 gasoline at the Dung Quat Refinery.

Against this backdrop, BSR and SDIC Biotech discussed the possibility of establishing a long-term ethanol supply partnership, featuring flexible shipment volumes of approximately 5,000–5,500 cubic meters per cargo, delivery via both sea and land transportation, and a competitive pricing mechanism aligned with market conditions.

Beyond fuel ethanol supply, BSR also explored SDIC Biotech's expertise and capabilities in developing second-generation ethanol from agricultural biomass, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), green methanol, and carbon emission reduction solutions. These areas align closely with BSR's strategic direction to develop new energy products and accelerate its energy transition initiatives in the coming years.

The working visit enabled BSR to directly assess SDIC Biotech's production and supply capabilities while opening up concrete opportunities for cooperation in fuel ethanol supply, technical exchanges, technology transfer, and joint research on biofuel solutions.

By strengthening partnerships with capable regional partners, BSR aims to diversify its ethanol supply sources, enhance the resilience and reliability of its supply chain, and gradually expand cooperation in green energy, biofuels, and carbon reduction solutions, thereby supporting the Corporation's energy transition strategy and long-term sustainable development objectives.
