Conclusion No. 76-KL/TW dated April 24, 2024, issued by the Politburo regarding the implementation of Resolution No. 41 on the strategic development of Vietnam’s oil and gas sector emphasized the importance of leveraging the advantages of the oil and gas industry to develop renewable and new energy sectors. These include offshore wind power projects for export and initiatives for producing hydrogen and ammonia. The conclusion also outlined the direction to transform the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group into the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group.

In response to global energy transition trends and to establish a new image that reflects its energy transformation commitment, at the 2024 Annual Review and 2025 Planning Conference, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and other Government and Ministry leaders officiated the renaming of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group to the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group (Petrovietnam).

At the same time, Petrovietnam swiftly launched the development and finalization of a new strategy, conducted research to create a new brand identity, and completed all relevant legal procedures to officially operate under the new designation. Petrovietnam has outlined its future development around three strategic pillars: Energy – Industry – Services, with Energy being the core pillar.

On April 9, 2025, the Prime Minister officially issued the decision to rename the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group as the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group (Petrovietnam). This new designation affirms that Petrovietnam is no longer merely a traditional oil and gas enterprise, but a national hub for industry, services, and energy. It carries the mission of sustainable development, technological innovation, and ensuring national energy security. This move also aligns the Group’s structure and operations with the Politburo’s strategic direction, global energy transition trends, and the Prime Minister’s Net Zero commitment by 2050.

He affirmed that Petrovietnam’s transition to the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group represents far more than a simple name change—it reflects the Group’s unrelenting growth and expansion. More importantly, the transformation marks a clear strategic direction for Petrovietnam: broadening its field of operations and enhancing its role and stature—not only in traditional energy but also in new energy and industrial sectors. He also expressed his confidence that Petrovietnam will successfully embrace its new responsibilities in the time ahead, contributing actively to the country’s broader progress.

Under its new development direction, Petrovietnam will focus on three main pillars: Energy – Industry – Services.

The transformation marks a significant milestone for Petrovietnam after 50 years of establishment and development, and builds upon the 64-year legacy of Vietnam’s oil and gas industry. It also affirms Petrovietnam’s strong commitment and determination in redefining its development strategy and operational model, asserting its role as a leading, foundational, and driving force among state-owned enterprises in the industrial and energy sectors.

The new name not only represents a renewed mission and vision but also demonstrates Petrovietnam’s pioneering commitment to technological innovation, sustainable development, national energy security, and integration into the global energy value chain.
