AVEVA World 2026, organized by AVEVA, brought together industry experts, business leaders, and technology partners from the energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, and industrial infrastructure sectors to discuss emerging trends in “Industrial Intelligence” - a trend shaping the future of global industries through the integration of real-time data, AI, unified operational platforms, and advanced analytics to improve operational efficiency and optimize decision-making.

As part of the event, Mr. Nguyen Viet Thang, President & CEO of Petrovietnam Refining and Petrochemical Corporation, represented BSR in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AVEVA Software Singapore Pte Ltd. The signing marked a significant milestone in the strategic partnership aimed at researching and promoting the application of advanced technology platforms to support BSR’s Smart Refinery roadmap and its strategy to become a comprehensively digitally transformed corporation.

Through in-depth discussions and strategic workshops between BSR and AVEVA regarding BSR’s overall digital transformation roadmap, AVEVA shared its assessment during a high-level meeting between the two parties that BSR’s current digital transformation maturity has reached 3.5+ out of 5 on the Asia-Pacific (APAC) industrial digital transformation scale. This is considered an above-average level, approaching the group of leading digitally transformed enterprises in the APAC region.

According to AVEVA’s assessment, BSR is moving in the right direction in its comprehensive digital transformation strategy by gradually eliminating siloed operational systems and progressing toward an integrated end-to-end digital ecosystem with synchronized data and centralized enterprise-wide governance.

AVEVA’s leadership representatives also affirmed their commitment to accompanying BSR by mobilizing the company’s full technological resources, international experts, and global implementation experience to support BSR in achieving its goal of becoming a comprehensively digitally transformed corporation. Key focus areas will include the development of intelligent operational platforms integrated with AI operational assistants, real-time management and governance systems, asset performance optimization, predictive maintenance, Digital Twin solutions for production optimization, and Unified Operations Centers (UOC).

According to the strategic direction discussed between the two parties, BSR aims to achieve a digital transformation maturity level of 4.5 to 5 between 2028 and 2030, moving toward becoming one of the region’s leading smart refining and petrochemical enterprises.

BSR’s participation in AVEVA World 2026 and the signing of the MOU with AVEVA demonstrate the corporation’s strong commitment to adopting advanced smart refinery models worldwide while accelerating its long-term digital transformation strategy in alignment with Vietnam’s national strategy for science and technology development, innovation, and digital transformation through 2030.

In recent years, the global energy and refining industries have experienced a strong shift from traditional operating models to data-driven and industrial intelligence-based operations. Modern plants are no longer focused solely on output but are increasingly emphasizing operational flexibility, asset optimization, equipment reliability, and real-time decision-making support.

For BSR, digital transformation is not merely about technology adoption but also a strategic step toward modernizing refinery management and operational models in a smart, integrated, and scalable manner.

In practice, BSR has been effectively utilizing multiple technology platforms developed by AVEVA in production operations and operational data management, contributing to improved technical asset information management, operational monitoring, and overall refinery governance efficiency.

Through this MOU, BSR and AVEVA will continue to explore and promote cooperation in several key technology areas, including Asset Performance Management (APM), predictive maintenance, Digital Twin applications for real-time operational optimization, digital asset information management, and unified operations centers. These are considered foundational platforms for gradually developing a Smart Refinery model in line with BSR’s strategic vision of becoming a comprehensively digitally transformed corporation.
